Birthing After Trauma: Neuro-Affirming Coaching for Couples

Preparing for birth when the last time left a mark

You are expecting a baby, and you are carrying more than most people can see. A previous birth that didn't go as hoped. A pregnancy shaped by anxiety, by a nervous system that feels everything more intensely, by the quiet fear that it might happen again.

You are not overreacting. You are not too much. And you do not have to prepare for this birth the same way you prepared for the last one.

This programme was built for couples who want to go into birth informed, connected, and genuinely ready — not just for the birth they are hoping for, but for every version of how it might unfold. It draws on trauma-informed approaches, neuro-affirming practice, and the kind of honest, unhurried preparation that most antenatal classes simply don't offer.

Who this is for:

✅ Couples preparing for a birth after a previous experience that felt frightening, out of control, or unresolved

✅ Parents with a trauma history who need support that understands how the nervous system responds under pressure

✅ Neurodivergent parents — ADHD, Autistic, or highly sensitive — who need preparation that actually fits their brain

✅ Expat couples navigating an unfamiliar healthcare system, without family nearby

✅ Partners who want to show up well and aren't sure how

✅ Anyone who wants more than a standard birth class can offer

What we cover:

The programme unfolds across seven sessions, with WhatsApp support throughout.

✅ Session 1 — Complimentary consultation (online) A relaxed conversation to get to know each other, understand where you are, and make sure this feels like the right fit. No commitment on either side.

✅ Couple Sessions 1 & 2 — Birth rights, options, and your birth plan. We go through the physiology of birth, your rights and options within the healthcare system you are birthing in: Spain, the Netherlands, the UK, or Portugal, and begin building a birth plan that prepares you for every version of how your birth might unfold. Not just the birth you hope for, but a clear and considered plan for every path. You will not be caught off guard.

✅ Couple Session 3 — Trauma, the nervous system, and birth. We look honestly at how previous trauma or a highly sensitive nervous system can show up during labour, and what to do when it does. Evidence-based techniques for managing trauma responses, releasing what no longer serves you, and building genuine confidence rather than forced positivity.

✅ Couple Session 4 — Hands-on preparation Pain management, labour positions, breathing through intensity, and partner support strategies designed specifically for trauma survivors and neurodivergent parents. Practical, embodied, and tailored to what your body and nervous system actually need.

✅ Individual Sessions — Space just for you. Three individual 60-minute sessions give each partner space to work through what they are carrying personally: fears, past experiences, or anything that feels too tender to hold in the couple space.

✅ Postpartum preparation — woven throughout. We don't stop at the birth. We talk about the immediate postpartum period honestly, the physical and emotional shifts, what your relationship will move through, and how to build a recovery plan that reflects your actual needs rather than what you think you should be able to manage.

✅ WhatsApp support: Direct access to me throughout the programme and for two weeks after your birth, for any questions that arise between sessions.

About Tania

My journey as a trauma-informed birth professional began in the Netherlands in 2018. Since then I have supported couples — including trauma survivors, neurodivergent parents, and expat families — through pregnancy and birth across different cultural and healthcare contexts.

I am not a home birth doula, and I am not a clinical practitioner. I move through both worlds — I hold the knowledge, I understand the systems — but I am not an advocate for any particular kind of birth. I am an advocate for you. Whatever you decide, whatever unfolds, your choices are honoured without reservation.

My training includes a Bachelor's in Mental Health Counselling (Academie voor Coaching en Counselling, Netherlands, 2024), Doula Certification (BIA Doula Training, Amsterdam, 2018), 3 Steps Rewind Practitioner for birth trauma resolution (2022), Anxiety in the Perinatal Period (TBR College, 2021), Supporting Survivors in the Perinatal Period (Resilient Birth, 2021), and Supporting Neurodiverse Birth (Neurodivergent Birth UK, 2024).

I practise in accordance with my Ethical Commitment & Professional Standards, which cover confidentiality, consent, safeguarding, and ongoing supervision.
